Classified – Beastie Boy

Classified pays homage to legendary group, Beastie Boys with new visual.

JUNO Award winning, multi-platinum Canadian hip-hop artist and producer Classified is pleased to announce today’s release of his brand new video for “Beastie Boy”, the latest video from his full-length album Tomorrow Could Be The Day Things Change.

With the Beastie Boy’s innovative marvel, Paul’s Boutique, getting ready to celebrate its 30th birthday in a few months and with the recent release of their new NY Times best-selling book, Classified decided to go full “Beastie Boy” and pay homage to legendary group with a scene by scene re-imagining of “Shake Your Rump”; which was exclusively premiered by HipHopDX.

“I grew up a huge Beastie Boys fan and haven’t really had the chance to honour them for everything they’ve done” Classified affirmed to HipHopDx. “I decided to dedicate a full song to them on the record, which gave me the perfect opportunity to recycle one of their old and lesser known videos. Here’s a personal tribute song and video from a Canadian emcee, eh.”

The Nova Scotia native was recently nominated for another JUNO Award for his “Powerless” video (which was directed by Andrew Hines) and also just wrapped his highly-praised, national headlining Canadian Classic Tour, which saw him take over venues across the country with special guests and Canadian hip hop legends Choclair and Maestro Fresh Wes, performing tracks old and new for legions of fans. Tomorrow Could Be The Day Things Change marked Classified’s first full-length release in two years, covering topics steeped in cultural relevance and delivering the innovative and genuine narrative fans expect from one of the country’s most respected rappers.

With an inherent and candid ability to break down the barrier between performer and audience while “leading the vanguard of East Coast hip hop” (Chronicle Herald), Classified is one of Canada’s most respected and successful rap artists and producers. His self-titled 2013 release debuted at No. 1 on the Canadian Nielsen Soundscan Chart, has sold over 1 million singles and is certified 2x Platinum. Additionally, the album boasts two Top 10 singles including the 5x Platinum “Inner Ninja” featuring David Myles and the Platinum certified “3 Foot Tall”. As one of the most influential hip-hop artists in Canada with over 100 million streams globally, the multiple JUNO Award winner hosted the 2014 JUNO Awards and has a combined 24 nominations and 8 wins between the MuchMusic Video Awards, JUNO Awards, and East Coast Music Awards.
